1. Fasting.
By being keen to fast in it, due to the great virtue of fasting on it, as previously mentioned in the Hadith.
(Note):
The venerable scholar Shaykh Muhammad Ibnu Saalih Al-Uthaymīn, رحمه الله, mentioned in Majmoo' Al-Fatawa (20/27): "As for the hajj pilgrim, it is not legislated for him to fast on the Day of Arafah, because the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) did not fast on the Day of Arafah during the Farewell Pilgrimage." End quote.
I say: The Hadith is in Bukhari (1658) and Muslim (1123) from Ummu Al-Fadl ( رضي الله عنها).
Imam At-Tirmidhi, رحمه الله, said:
"And the practice among most scholars is that they recommend not fasting in Arafah, so that one may strengthen himself for supplication. However, some scholars did fast on the Day of Arafah in Arafah." End quote.
Ibnu Qudamah, رحمه الله , said in Al-Mughni (3/179): "And it is not recommended for one who is in Arafah to fast, so that he may strengthen himself for supplication." End of quote.
